About the Opportunity
ARCA is partnering with a growing UK engineering business operating across the energy and utilities infrastructure sector.
As part of continued expansion, the business is strengthening its contractual governance and commercial risk capability at an organisational level, and this appointment is central to that.
This is not a traditional project cost-control QS role.
This is a senior, commercially focused position responsible for:
- Contract governance
- NEC4 oversight
- Commercial risk management
- Business-wide compliance
You’ll act as the internal authority on contracts, reporting directly into senior leadership, with a clear pathway into the senior management team.
The Role
You will take ownership of contractual and commercial governance across transmission and distribution frameworks, ensuring the business is protected, compliant and commercially robust.
Key focus areas include:
- Acting as the commercial lead for all client and subcontractor contracts
- Overseeing NEC4 contract interpretation, compliance and governance
- Managing early warnings, compensation events and risk exposure
- Maintaining central registers of contracts, insurances, bonds and warranties
- Leading subcontractor appointments and compliance verification
- Supporting contract negotiations, amendments and renewals
- Advising senior leadership on commercial exposure and mitigation strategy
- Strengthening commercial procedures and governance frameworks
You’ll work closely with engineering and operational teams to ensure contractual commitments align with delivery realities.
What We’re Looking For
This role suits a commercially mature Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Manager who understands the strategic side of NEC-based contracting, not just project valuation.
You’ll likely bring:
- Significant experience within UK transmission & distribution
- Strong, demonstrable NEC4 expertise
- A background in contract governance and commercial risk management
- Confidence engaging senior stakeholders and external advisors
- A methodical, detail-driven approach to compliance
- Commercial judgement balanced with practical business thinking
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Law or similar.
- RICS (or working toward) advantageous but not essential.
