Principal Site Contract Manager

The Opportunity

ARCA Resourcing is partnering with a growing engineering organisation delivering complex infrastructure projects across the UK energy and utilities sector.

As project demand increases across high-voltage transmission and distribution works, the business is looking to appoint a Principal Contract Site Manager (PCSM) to take full ownership of site delivery.

This is a senior, site-led role where you’ll act as the authority on-site — responsible for safety, programme delivery, subcontractor performance, and client interface.

Role Overview

The PCSM is accountable for the safe, efficient, and compliant delivery of construction activities across live infrastructure projects.

You’ll lead multidisciplinary site teams, manage subcontractors, and act as the primary interface with National Grid, DNOs, and client representatives — ensuring works are delivered to programme, standard, and expectation.

Key Responsibilities

Site Leadership & Delivery

  • Take full ownership of site delivery across assigned projects or work packages
  • Lead and coordinate Site Managers, Engineers, Supervisors, and subcontractor teams
  • Ensure works are delivered safely, on time, and to required quality standards
  • Oversee site logistics, sequencing, and execution of construction activities
  • Drive effective planning and coordination across all site operations

Safety, Health & Compliance

  • Act as the senior authority for SHEQ on site
  • Ensure compliance with CDM Regulations and all safety standards
  • Lead implementation of RAMS and safe systems of work
  • Promote a strong safety-first culture across all teams
  • Ensure adherence to National Grid, DNO, and client-specific requirements

Client & Stakeholder Interface

  • Act as the primary site interface with National Grid, DNOs, and client teams
  • Ensure compliance with client procedures, authorisations, and site requirements
  • Support coordination of outages, permits, and site access
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders

Contractor & Supply Chain Management

  • Manage subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring performance and compliance
  • Monitor productivity and adherence to programme
  • Ensure delivery aligns with contractual obligations and quality standards
  • Resolve site issues, delays, and non-conformances proactively

Programme & Delivery Control

  • Ensure alignment between site activities and overall project programme
  • Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies
  • Support reporting on site progress and performance
  • Work closely with Project Managers to maintain delivery certainty

Quality & Documentation

  • Ensure all works meet technical specifications and quality standards
  • Support inspections, testing, and commissioning
  • Maintain accurate site records and reporting
  • Ensure delivery aligns with design intent and approved documentation

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop site-based teams
  • Drive accountability and high-performance culture
  • Support development of Site Managers and Engineers
  • Ensure clear communication across all site personnel

  • Strong experience working on National Grid and/or UK DNO projects
  • Track record managing complex construction sites and multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong knowledge of health, safety, and CDM regulations

  • SMSTS or equivalent qualification
  • Relevant engineering or construction qualification (HNC/HND or degree)
